This week has proved to be a difficult one for our chapter. I have sad news to report.
Early yesterday morning, our longtime member and friend, Mary Crider, passed on. Mary had fought cancer valiantly for the past few years, and served as inspiration to all of us. I must also report the passing of member Ron “Big Ron” Siciliano late last week. Ron loved being a part of our chapter, and had a fantastic sense of humor. I also ask that you remember Ron’s family in your thoughts and prayers. Below, you will find details of Ron’s memorial service:

There are lots of things going on this Sunday, 12/1
First, the Toys for Tots Parade. If you are interested in riding, there are a couple of members meeting for breakfast at Los Comales (3623 South Archer Avenue) at 8 AM. Email Will, our treasurer, if interested in meeting him there (firstname.lastname@example.org).
If not up for riding in the parade, several members also help block intersections at 55th and 56th Streets and Western. If interested in joining this group, they are leaving from ILHD at 8:30 AM.
Later, everyone is invited to ILHD for our annual Chili Cook Off. If interested in entering, bring your chili, ALREADY HEATED, in a crock pot to the dealership by 11 AM. Bring any condiments you want to add. Everyone else is welcome to sample the chilis and decide which ones they like best. Judging begins at 11:30 AM.
Also at ILHD, there will be a bake sale so we need some folks to bring in goodies to sell.
At 1 PM there will be a Road Captains meeting at ILHD for those interested in learning more about helping out on Chapter rides next year.
Volunteers are needed for holiday gift wrapping on weekends through the holidays starting Sunday. Contact Pat for details (email@example.com).
All proceeds will be donated to Illinois tornado relief efforts.

This Saturday, the Illinois Route 66 HOG Chapter rides to the Harley-Davidson 110th Anniversary celebration. Over the past few days I’ve finalized some details, and created an FAQ (really, a FAQ), which can be found below. See you Saturday!
9950 Joliet Road, Countryside
7 a.m. (arrive fed and fueled)
400 W. Canal St., Milwaukee
Kopp’s for Custard
7631 W. Layton, Greenfield, WI
7 p.m. (depart fed and fueled)
Q: Weren’t we going to arrive at Harley-Davidson Corporate Headquarters?
A: We were. The parade route changed the plan. We are now arriving at the Harley-Davidson Museum, which avoids us having to attempt to cut across the parade route.
Q: What time are we getting to Milwaukee?
A: We are not taking the interstate, so the trip to Milwaukee will take a little over three hours. Plan to arrive between 10 and 11 a.m. We will have a stop on the way to Milwaukee for gas and potty.
Q: Do I need a ticket to the 110th Anniversary Celebration to come on the ride?
A: No, absolutely not. The only location you’ll need advanced tickets to is the Summerfest Grounds. There are ample events throughout the Milwaukee area which do not require tickets. You can still get tickets to the event at: http://110.harley-davidson.com/events/milwaukee2013/ticketing. For more information on stuff you don’t need a ticket for you can go here: http://milwaukeerally.com/. If you’d like to visit the museum, there is an admission charge, and details are here: http://www.harley-davidson.com/en_US/Content/Pages/HD_Museum/museum.html.
Q: Are there any formal plans for the Chapter in Milwaukee?
A: There are not. Options will likely include a trip to Harley-Davidson Headquarters on Juneau Avenue (again, no admission), and participation in the various Milwaukee Rally events. You can coordinate with Chapter members upon our arrival in Milwaukee.
Q: Do I have to leave the Milwaukee area with the Chapter?
A: No. You can leave at your leisure. It does mean we’re not taking attendance and waiting to leave on any stragglers. We’ll leave Kopp’s for Custard at 7 p.m. You may wish to have dinner (and save room for custard!) before we leave. Again, we’ll have a gas and potty stop on the way home.
Q: Do I need to sign-up to go?
A: You do not. We’re leaving Illinois Harley-Davidson promptly at 7 a.m. You can (and really should) confirm you’re planning to go by sending an e-mail to Rob at director@IllinoisRoute66HOG.com.
For those not attending the Chapter ride to Milwaukee on Saturday, August 31, here is another ride to consider with fellow member, Dave Hume.
Every year The Nation of Patriots (nationofpatriots.org) organizes a national event that pays tribute to, and honors all of America’s Armed Forces – past, present and fallen. The Patriot Tour involves thousands of patriotic riders all across the United States.
Back in May, Illinois Route 66 HOG Chapter members received the American flag from Wisconsin at Woodstock H-D and escorted her to Indiana the following day. This single flag will have toured on the backs of some 100 motorcycles through 48 states, covering 14,200 miles in 100 days. It is returning to Wisconsin on Saturday, August 31st.
All Illinois Route 66 HOG Chapter members and guests are invited to represent Illinois once again for the End of Tour and Closing Ceremonies in Madison, WI. We will meet at the WHITE CASTLE on LaGrange & Joliet Rd. next to the gas station (not the dealership) on Saturday, August 31st at 6:30 AM, with kickstands up at 7:00 AM sharp. Please come fed and topped-off, as this will be a two and a half hour cruise via Interstate to Beaver H-D in Madison, Wisconsin, to be followed by patriotic celebrations at Truax Field and the closing ceremony at Beaver Dam.
For information or additional details, please reach out to Dave via phone (708) 788 8171 or email email@example.com.
In case you haven’t heard, it’s a big year for Harley-Davidson and HOG — 110 years for the former, 30 for the latter. And H-D is throwing a weekend long party up in Milwaukee to celebrate! All the details — tickets, schedule, bands, events, maps, direction, etc. — are here http://110.harley-davidson.com.
For Illinois Route 66 HOG members interested in riding up there Saturday, August 31st, there is a group leaving Illinois HD at 7 AM. Come a little early for a pre-ride meeting. Also, come fed and ready to ride (full tanks, empty bladders). We are not planning on taking the interstate so it will take a little longer to get up there.
If 60 bands on 5 stages surrounded by thousands of bikers sounds like too much, there are plenty of other things going on up in the area at the Museum as well as surrounding dealerships. Don’t forget the pin stop!
Since we’ll probably all go our own way when we get up there, there will be a pre-arranged rendezvous time/place for those riding back Saturday night.
If you want to go on the ride, please let Rob know (director@IllinoisRoute66HOG.com) so he has an idea of how many people to expect.
A member called the Olympia Resort on August 19th and learned that are 100 rooms left for Friday night (9/27) and only 28 rooms left for Saturday night (9/28). So if you’re thinking about going, make your reservations soon!
Save the Date!!
September 27th and September 28thMembers of the Illinois Route 66 HOG Chapter will again be participating in the 19th Annual Ridin’ to a Cure fundraiser sponsored by the Rock River HOG Chapter from Wisconsin Harley-Davidson in Oconomowoc, WI.
Special rates for participants are being given at Olympia Resort & Spa which hosts the 2-day event. You must call by August 31st and mention the ride to receive the discounted rate of $65/night. . . that’s $55/night off their regular rate! So, if you are interested, please check the website (www.ridintoacure.com) which lists all the specifics of the event.
A group will be riding up to Oconomowoc in the early afternoon on Friday, September 27th. If interested, please contact Pat for details (firstname.lastname@example.org).
We want to build up our team of Road Captains. Road Captains play a vital role in keeping our rides safe.
If you consider yourself a skilled rider, we would really appreciate your help on Chapter rides. Road Captains help plan routes, educate members on group riding techniques and hand signals and act as a guide on the rides. A CB radio is helpful, but not required.
If interested in becoming a Road Captain, or if you have any questions, please reach out to Frank, our Head Road Captain (headroadcaptain@IllinoisRoute66HOG.com).
Thanks for your consideration.
Join the Illinois Route 66 HOG Chapter at the 9th Annual F.A.S.T. ride this Sunday, August 18. The 9th Annual Ride will starts promptly at 9:00 am (registration at 8:00am) atGalway’s at 12045 W. The ride stops for lunch at the Moose Lodge in Morris, IL, and then returns to Galway’s for a fantastic post-ride party. For more information visit: www.fastride.us.
Your help is needed: The FAST Ride enjoys the support and assistance of multiple law enforcement agencies, but there are a few places on the route where assistance is needed to block intersections as the ride passes. Ride participants are needed to assist blocking intersections as the ride passes. If you’d like to help (and earn a special t-shirt and a place in the front of the ride) please arrive by 8:15 a.m. and say you’d like to help block. It’s that simple!
See you Sunday!
Join us this Thursday, August 15, for our monthly chapter meeting, starting at 7 p.m. at the American Legion, 900 S. La Grange Road (51st St. and La Grange Rd.), La Grange.
See you there!
If you have not already done so, please RSVP for the Chapter picnic by Monday, August 5th.
Saturday, August 10th is our annual picnic for members and their families. The Chapter supplies the meat and soft drinks. Our gracious hosts, Rick and Deb, provide plenty of entertainment at their home including fishing, volleyball, bags, hay rides, nature trail, etc. The evening is capped off by a spectacular bonfire. Please bring a dish to share (appetizer, salad, side dish, dessert, etc.) and your own libations if you wish. Things get started at 1 PM. People are welcome to tent/camp overnight.
There will be a group riding up together for those that are interested. Contact Todd, our ride leader, if you would like to join us. His email is email@example.com.
We need a head count for this by Monday, August 5th so we can order enough food. Let us know if you are coming and how many guests you are bringing. RSVP with Pete (activities@IllinoisRoute66HOG.com).
If you have already RSVP’d, we’re looking forward to seeing you there!

In total, there were 37 people and 27 bikes on the ride. In true Chapter fashion, we
— took the scenic route a couple of times,
— spent more time than expected at Hall’s HD in Springfield,
— got drenched (thankfully we weren’t riding at the time) and
— some folks stopped at Polka Dot on the way home for ice cream.
All that and there was a patch!!!
Attached is a group photo in Pontiac, IL.
Great riding, good times and lots of laughs all weekend long!
Did you ride on Sunday, June 23rd? Planning on riding today, Monday, June 24th? If you logged any miles either day, make sure to log them in on members.hog.com for World Ride days. And if you rode with friends who are not part of HOG — even if they weren’t on a Harley — you can log their miles too!
As of 8:45 AM there were already 3 million miles logged!!
It’s simple! It’s fun! And there’s a downloadable certificate!!
Illinois HD is expecting another big turn out on Saturday (6/22) for their upcoming Open House/Summer Blues Jam Party. They have asked our Chapter to help coordinate parking. If you’d like to volunteer, please contact Carole, the GM, at firstname.lastname@example.org and she will give you more details.
It all started 27 years ago in a garage behind Illinois Harley-Davidson, then located on Roosevelt Road in Oak Park. Then to Berwyn and Countryside. On Thursday, June 20, 2013 at 7 p.m., we convene at our new meeting location, the Coulter American Legion Hall at 900 S. LaGrange Road in LaGrange. The Illinois Route 66 HOG Chapter has several vacant and new officer positions we’d like to fill with enthusiastic members who want to take on leadership roles in the chapter.
New Members Officer(s): Our chapter is growing, and the Illinois Route 66 Chapter would like to add an officer or officers to take on the task of welcoming our new members, making sure new members get plugged in to the latest events and happenings with chapter, and have a point of contact who can answer their questions. As a New Member Officer, you’ll be the person our new and prospective members see first when they join, and you’ll be working directly with our Membership Officer. Whenever possible, the New Members Officer should be able to attend the Illinois Harley-Davidson New Owners Meetings, held the third Wednesday of every month (the day before our chapter meeting). On chapter rides you’ll keep an eye on making sure that riders and motorcycles are in good riding condition. Thisposition should be held by someone comfortable with their riding skills. For more information contact Head Road Captain Frank Kresica at headroadcaptain@IllinoisRoute66HOG.com.
Road Captains: Our expanding chapter needs your help to make sure we have fun on the road. We’re looking to put together a team of Road Captains to ensure we get from point A to point B in good shape. Duties of Road Captain include briefing riders on the ride route, ensuring use of safe riding practices, assisting riders needing help, and communicating with ride leads and other Road Captains of changing conditions and troubles on the route. Road Captain is one of the most important positions in the chapter, and riding experience is a must. You are the best gauge of your riding experience. Road Captains should be available to participate in chapter rides. This riding season, we’ll be working to create a “core group” of Road Captains. Having a CB radio, while not a must, is very, very helpful. For more information contact Head Road Captain Frank Kresica at headroadcaptain@IllinoisRoute66HOG.com.
Whew! That’s a lot of information. I hope you’ll take an opportunity to participate and lend your talents to your HOG chapter. As always, if you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at director@IllinoisRoute66HOG.com.
Have fun and ride safe,

I have exciting news. With the riding season well upon us (Spring, what’s
that?), Illinois Route 66 HOG is growing and changing. With that in mind, the
Illinois Route 66 HOG has secured a new (and much bigger) meeting location.
Starting with our meeting on Thursday, June 20, the Illinois Route 66 HOG
Chapter meets at the Robert E. Coulter, Jr. American Legion Post at 900 S. La
Grange Road in La Grange. It’s located at the corner of 51st St. and La Grange
Rd., just a few short blocks north of Illinois Harley Davidson. It has ample
parking in a large paved lot. We’ll start (as usual) at 7 p.m.
I look forward to seeing you all at this historic first meeting at the Coulter
American Legion Post on June 20. Make sure you remind your Illinois Route 66
HOG friends to come to our new location. As always, if you know someone who
rides a Harley-Davidson motorcycle, they are welcome to join the Illinois Route
66 HOG Chapter.
Ride safe and have fun,
Robert Baren, Director
Our Webmaster, Kevin, would like copies of pictures members have taken at Chapter events, rides and meetings. This will augment what our Photographer, Butch, puts on the site. If you’d like to share your pictures with the Chapter, please reach out to Kevin at webmaster@oakparkhog.

Happy new year!
Hopefully all of you have seen the new Chapter rockers. It’s great to see our new name in print and already on the backs of vests!
Our current supply of large and small rockers has silver lettering. The round patch is in gold. We are going to order more rockers with gold lettering and want to know how many people would like.
If you would like to pre-order a large or small rocker with our new Chapter name in gold letters, we will be collecting money at the January meeting. If you cannot attend the January meeting, please send me an email with your order request (include both number and size of rocker).
Large rockers are $20, small rockers are $10.

The large and small rockers with our new Chapter name have arrived! We are still waiting for the round patches.
We will be selling the rockers on Saturday, December 8th. Members are welcome to buy patches at either the gift wrapping table at the dealership or at the holiday party. Since there is a limited supply, only members can purchase them right now.
If you responded to the survey and indicated what patches you want, they will be held for you. If you don’t buy them on Saturday, they will be available at Chapter meetings.
Prices (which include sales tax as well as shipping and handling charges) are:
Large rocker — $20
Small rocker — $10
Round patch — $15
On Saturday (12/8) only, you can purchase the large rocker for $15 either at the dealership or the holiday party. Cash or check, no credit cards.
After Saturday, patches will be available at Chapter meetings at the full $20 price for the large rockers, $10 for small rockers and $15 for rounds when they come in. The next Chapter meeting is January 17, 2013.
Every year Illinois Harley-Davidson asks the H.O.G. Chapter to volunteer to wrap gifts purchased at the dealership. Pat, our Ladies of Harley Officer, has been coordinating this effort. We need more volunteers to help out.
If you have a couple of hours during the weekends from now until Christmas to help us, Bob Maxant, our dealer sponsor, his staff and the Chapter Officers would greatly appreciate it. Money we raise will be donated to the Community Nurse Health Center in LaGrange, IL.
So check your calendars and lend a hand. Please get in touch with Pat via email (firstname.lastname@example.org) and let her know when you can help out.
Ever since Illinois Harley-Davidson moved to Countryside, we anticipated that our Chapter name would change. At our November Chapter meeting, Bob Maxant, our Dealer Sponsor, announced that the Oak Park, IL Chapter will now be known as the

If you’re heading to the State HOG Rally in Rosemont (June 7-9), they could really use our help. There are lots of opportunities for volunteering (registration, field events, security, parking, road captain, etc). If interested in helping out for a couple of hours, you can contact Laura Whiteside, Assistant Volunteer Coordinator, at email@example.com. Several people from the Chapter will be working at registration Friday afternoon if you’d like to join us. If so, make sure to mention it to Laura.
All the details on the rally are at http://ilstatehogrally.com/. You must be registered in order to volunteer. Online registration is open through May 26th.
Thanks in advance.

Don’t let the name fool you, we won’t be out all night. Could be chilly though so come bundled!

A note from the dealer:
I had intended to provide an update at the last meeting but was unable to make it … The contractor is saying that he will be done by March 31. We then apply for an occupancy permit, if granted, we will need a week or 2 to install our showcases and wall display system. Our best guess right now is that we will be able to move in mid-April. We will plan to close for 2-3 days during the process. We will welcome any and all that care to assist with the move.
